This page explains what data Pulsars collects, why, and how you keep control of it. The principle that guided the design of the site: collect as little as possible.
The data we process
Your account: your username, your email address and your password (never stored in plain text — it is hashed). When signing up, you can state your level and interests: these answers are optional and can be changed from your profile.
Your learning activity: the courses you follow, the exercises you attempt, your progress.
What you publish: questions, answers, room messages, private messages, reports and suggestions.
Traffic: to count visits without tracking you, we compute a fingerprint from your IP address and browser, immediately turned into an unreadable value by a one-way process. Your IP address is not kept, and no analytics cookie is set.
Why we process it
To run your account and the community features, to show you your progress and suggest relevant courses, to keep the site secure and protect it from abuse, and to measure traffic anonymously.
Cookies
Pulsars sets no advertising cookie or tracker. A strictly necessary session cookie keeps you logged in; another remembers your choice of language and theme. None is used to follow you from one site to another.
Private messages
The content of private messages is encrypted at rest in our database: it never appears there in plain text. Note however that this encryption is not end-to-end: for an absolute secret, an online message is not the right channel.
Third-party services
On-demand translation of forum questions and answers relies on an external translation service: the text concerned is sent to it to be translated. Course content, on the other hand, is translated in advance and depends on no online service.
The site's emails (verification, password reset) go through our sending provider.
How long
Your data is kept as long as your account exists. When it is closed, the data is deleted or anonymised; published content may remain visible, but detached from your identity. Traffic measurements, already anonymous, cannot be traced back to you.
Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, have it deleted, or object to certain processing. Some of this is handled directly from your profile; for the rest, write to us at [A COMPLETER : adresse de contact].
